Maria João is the daughter of the late Comendador Rui Nepomuceno — a renowned Madeiran lawyer, politician and historian, a leading figure in Madeira's public and cultural life, whose example and work continue to inspire her practice.
In the Nepomuceno family, Law spans generations: her sister, Filipa Nepomuceno, is currently serving her second term as President of the Deontology Council of the Madeira Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados).
